Help! My parents want to invite 20 of their friends to our wedding
What to do when mum and dad help out financially but expand the guest list beyond your comfort zone.
Dear Ms Wise, I’m getting married next year. My partner and I wanted a wedding of about 50 people, but my mum has just informed us she wants to invite about 20 of her friends. We haven’t budgeted for this, and I’m starting to stress out about telling her that we can’t make it work. Help!
The wisdom: Ooft. That’s uncomfortable. But, say advisers, not impossible to resolve. It comes down to good communication with your partner, your respective parents and – crucially – doing this early.
