Free and Discounted Admission at New Orleans Museums

Get out of the heat and into these museums to cool off throughout August

With the extreme temperatures actively boiling us, there’s only one thing to look forward to in August — museums. Louisiana residents can enjoy three of the city’s finest art museums, the Ogden Museum of Southern ArtContemporary Arts Center and the New Orleans Museum of Art for free every Saturday in August. That’s Aug. 12, 19 and 26 for the remainder of the month, if like me you need to mark your calendar, or you’ll forget. Free admission to the museums is made possible via The Helis Foundation’s summer initiative, “Art & A/C.”  Also, many New Orleans museums and other attractions (like Audubon Zoo) have free days throughout the year for Louisiana residents and the New Orleans Public Library’s Culture Pass program features a list of participating museums and attractions in which Orleans Parish residents can reserve free day passes.

Meanwhile, if you can brave the heat, there are few places more beautiful to do it than Longue Vue House & Gardens. Longue Vue is one of many museums participating in New Orleans Museum Month. Members of participating museums receive free garden admission for two at Longue Vue. (Note: Bring proof of membership with you to participating museums to take part in New Orleans Museum month admissions and discounts.) Additional museums offering free admission or discounts include The Backstreet Cultural Museum, JAMnola, Louisiana Children’s Museum,Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience and more. View the full list  to see which museums are participating, check their hours and plan your visit.rted-space”> that originally published on Aug. 5, 2022)
