Blueberries
It’s blueberry season, so be sure to pick up some fresh berries from Poche Family Farm this week before they are all gone. They’ve also recently had some of the best herbs, tomatoes, peppers and more, so why not whip up some fresh salsa while you’re at it? Farmer’s markets are busting with lots of the best produce of the year, so be sure to check out the Crescent City Farmers Market for many of the above mentioned growers and more. Plus the PBS favorite cooking show America’s Test Kitchen has lots of tips for using summer produce in their farmer’s market week recipes, like this one for pickled tomatillos.
Cool Treats
When iced tea or coffee just won’t cut it, try picking up a pint from the amazing Super Witch Ice Cream Co. Recent flavors have included peanut butter brownie blast, ooey gooey velvet cookie, roasted pistachio and the innovative (and creatively named) “Airline Skate Center” with “Madagascar Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Oreo Chunks, and Funfetti Cake Batter Swirls.” Check out their Instagram for how to order and to see what’s coming up on the menu. Summer Series
As part of their Summer Chef series, Saint John NOLA, along with sister restaurant Gris Gris, is hosting “The Lost Supper” July 6 at 6 p.m. Each of the menu’s four courses is inspired by a quote from mystery, horror or suspense writing with the goal of evoking emotion through food and cocktails. Diners are encouraged to “Dress to Depress.” For someone who’s favorite holiday is Halloween, I am ready to get spooky.
