Week of August 28: Birthday, Breakfast and a Roper Romp

Roper Romp

Southern Decadence hits the French Quarter and beyond, with special celebrations like the “Mrs. Roper Romp” all weekend long. The “Romp” invites attendees to channel their inner Mrs. Roper from the 1980s sitcom “Three’s Company” with fabulous curly red hair, chunky costume jewelry and, of course, a striking caftan. The romp, which was originally launched locally by Bud Moore, who gathered with friends to celebrate Decadence, has been embraced across the U.S., with celebrations in New York City, Providence, Rhode Island, San Diego and beyond. The New York Times even recently published a write up on the romp’s history and why it has found a national celebratory following. This weekend’s New Orleans gathering will start on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Golden Lantern Bar. Get your wedge sandals ready!

Birthday Bash

Book lovers will want to mark their calendars for local independent bookstore Blue Cypress’s 15th Anniversary Bash. On Saturday, Sept. 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the neighborhood favorite will feature special merch, giveaways, surprises and more. The event is free and open to the public.

Night Market

Check out the mid-week “Summer Night Market” this Wednesday, Aug. 30, 5 to 9 p.m. at Val’s on Freret Street. There will be plenty of local vendors selling jewelry, art, vintage wares, ceramics, ice cream and more. Plus, it’s a great time to grab a happy hour marg or chilled beverage and a taco or two.

Breakfast of Champions

Molly’s Rise and Shine recently posted these amazing breakfast sammies and that has us wanted to run, not walk, on down. Oh, and BTW, if you want to learn more about the amazing chef duo behind these culinary creations, check out my conversation with Colleen Quarls and Liz Hollinger in our latest episode of “Beyond the Kitchen.” We get into their menu inspiration process, the New Orleans restaurant community, snacks and more.
