Week of August 7: Podcasts, Barbie and Ice Cream

Get your tie dye ready, The Electric Yat Quartet is performing “The Walrus: A New Orleans Beatles Tribute” live and free from the front porch of 1105 General Pershing St. this Friday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Be sure to bring your lawn chair, go-cup and a friend or two (plus a tip for the musicians).

Get crafty and get ready for your red dress run at NOLA Craft Culture. This Thursday, Aug. 10 6 to 8 p.m., enjoy some bubbles and craft a new look with a red dress headband workshop and fashion popup with @Madliberationvintage. Or just stop by to shop for accessories and more.

Laozi Ice Cream has been knocking it out of the park recently, with a line around the block from the back porch of Blue Dot Donuts on Canal Street for their seasonal, small batch ice cream. Soon a website will be available for pre-orders, so watch their Instagram account for details and get yourself some goodness. Past flavors have included “Nana Puddin’,” “Butter Off Dead,” “Reddddd Velvet,” “Salted Tahitian Vanilla,” and “Ginger Cayenne Orange Blossom Sorbet.”

If you didn’t catch this recent Barbie-inspired flash mob during Tales of the Cocktail by Bobs Dance Shop, check it out. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate New Orleans, Barbie and cocktails!

Finally, be sure to check out newest podcast “Beyond the Kitchen” where I sit down with local chefs and restauranteurs to chat about what they love to eat, why New Orleans is the best food city in the world and what they have cooking up next. Episode one with Gris-Gris and Saint John chef and owner Eric Cook is out now!
