Week of July 31: Art + A/C, Frozen Treats and Cocktail Clubs

Art + A/C

The dog days are here. Escape the heat and enjoy some great art with “Art + A/C,” funded by The Helis Foundation, which returns this Saturday, August 5. The program, which provides free admission to the Contemporary Arts Center, Ogden Museum of Art, and New Orleans Museum of Art, continues each Saturday of the month, with free giveaways planned for August 12 and 26 at all locations (while supplies last, so get there early!)

Frozen Treats, and more

After a visit to your favorite museum, swing by Cooter Brown’s for a pint, a po-boy and some ice cream. This “Ice Cream Sammich” recently caught our eye. Did someone say, “Homemade peanut butter cookies with banana pudding ice cream rolled in PB & Chocolate chips?” Yes, please!

Cocktail Club

James Beard Award winning chef Nina Compton, owner of Compere Lapin and Bywater American Bistro, has launched a new kind of cocktail club – ShaSha Lounge: Social Aid and Pleasure Club. The membership cocktail lounge aims to donate a portion of proceeds to the United Way to aid in natural disaster relief locally. Benefits include special access to the lounge, member-only events, virtual classes and cocktail lessons, limited guest passes, special access to special event tickets such as Jazz Fest, Essence, Mardi Gras and more. We got a sneak peek during last week’s Tales of the Cocktail event to sample cocktails and small bites, along with live music. Founding membership is now open, for what is a first of its kind club that gives back to the community.
