Plant-based from the soul

Enjoy some outdoor activities and delicious plant-based snacks, food and more at this Saturday’s Vegan 2 the Soul Food & Lifestyle Festival at Lemann Park. A free yoga session kicks the day off at 10 a.m., followed by food, music, art and more from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

DIY fashion

Ever feel frustrated when trying to find that perfect piece of clothing you have in your mind? Learn how to make your own designer skirt with sewing expert Blythe Craft at RicRackNOLA. This beginner 2.0 class will be held in two parts this Saturday, July 22, and next Saturday, July 29, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students will learn “useful skills such as sewing darts, adding a zipper and a pocket, reading more advanced patterns, and fabric cutting techniques.” Attendees should have basic knowledge of using a sewing machine. Cost is $125. Spots will fill up fast, so register now here. Plus check out the studio’s full line of classes and community workshops, from hand sewing and machine basics, to teen activities and more.

Check out summer fun

Summertime is busy at the New Orleans Public Library. After being closed for regular maintenance issues, the Milton H. Latter Memorial library branch has reopened for normal library hours. The summer reading challenge is still going until and readers have until July 31 to complete their reading hours and activities to receive prizes including a specially designed book tote. The “Summer Fun Adult Writing Contest” closes on July 31 as well, looking for entries using the writing prompt “renewal.”  Finally, check out the library’s jam-packed website for all upcoming activities plus some great recommendations for books on summer cooking, summer camp stories and more.

Beer flight

Urban South’s new “Flight Club” is open for enrollment now through July 31. Participants get a ton of exclusive perks, including 10 beer flights for the year, an Urban South t-shirt from the taproom’s collection, and “beer buddy” coupons for a free pint to share with friends. Plus, some rad flight club bragging rights, as well.

Pizza and zen

Finally, here is my moment of relatable zen, courtesy of actor (and New Orleans resident) Jennifer Coolidge on pandemic pizza consumption and swimwear. And now I need to know her pizza source!
