We are about to begin yet another school year and I can barely recall last year’s daily carpool routine. However distant a memory it all seems, something I do recall every single year is the feeling I’m fashionably unprepared for after school activities. True, my after school hours only comprise about four hours of the day, thus it seems unnecessary to worry about fashion at this time of day. Really, who cares what they like in front of their kids, right? Sure that would be true if we lived in another city, but we live in New Orleans. Between the hours of 3-6 p.m. you will likely see one or all of the following; your childhood crush, mother’s best friend, ex-boyfriend, realtor, dermatologist and sorority sister. Let me spare you the internal debate on whether or not wearing still-sweaty work out pants to pick-up is good idea. It’s not. Not because you have something to prove or because you don’t look great in your natural state, but rather because you will feel like you could have done more. As busy parents, most days we feel like we couldn’t possibly do more. But every now and then when the stars align, we can! So, lets plan for a few of those magical days when we have the energy to look cute, casual and capable of carpooling our children all over God’s creation.
