StudioWTA is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a new name–practis. A New Orleans-based architecture firm known for its contextual and contemporary Designs, their work has garnered national, regional, and local recognition.

Originally founded as Wayne Troyer Architects in 1993, the studio rebranded for its 10th anniversary to better reflect its collaborative culture. Now 100 percent women owned, practis has emerged under the leadership of Tracie Ashe and Julie Babin. practis specializes in creating custom and unique design solutions for a range of project types including residential,  hospitality, commercial, and institutional work. The partners particularly enjoy new construction or adaptive reuse projects that blend historic restoration with contemporary design. Recently, Tracie and Julie purchased a 100-year-old building at 3450 Magazine Street, which they look forward to transforming into their new studio later this year.

Together, Tracie Ashe and Julie Babin hold architectural licenses in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and New Jersey. Both are graduates of the Tulane School of Architecture. Tracie serves on the citywide Architecture Review Committee of the Historic District Landmarks Commission, while Julie is a Past-President of the New Orleans chapter of the American Institute of Architects and was recognized in 2020 with the chapter’s “Young Architect Award.”
