It wasn’t Sydney landing slots that sent Rex into a spin
Rod Sims and other critics of government aviation policy should analyse the facts before obsessing over slot-hoarding.
Graeme SamuelFormer regulatorI was disappointed to hear Rod Sims’ comments last week attributing the recent failure of Bonza and the current financial woes of Rex to a failure of government policy, particularly in relation to the slot management system at Sydney Airport.
They exhibited an obsession with his singular focus on “slot hoarding” and reflected a superficial understanding of the real issues. As a former chairman of the ACCC, Sims should be expected to undertake a more rational analysis of issues affecting competition rather than forming a view and then misrepresenting the facts to support his view – otherwise known as “confirmation bias”.
