Rolls-Royce’s electric Spectre has landed – in all its pompous glory

You don’t buy a Rolls, you commission one, and the options are almost endless. But the marque’s first EV sure makes its presence felt on the road.

What is it? The Spectre two-door coupe is the first electric production car from the British company that is a byword for quality. The company, unsurprisingly, calls it “the Rolls-Royce of EVs”. The first examples are now being handed to Australian customers, giving us the chance to sample it on local roads after driving it overseas last year.

What does it cost? You don’t buy a Rolls-Royce, you commission one, which is a much more expensive process. Here, the base Spectre is $770,000, plus on-road costs and your choice of an almost unlimited selection of options and accessories. Our Midnight Sapphire-hued example, with Starlight Headlining (a night-sky pattern on the ceiling created by hundreds of tiny fibre-optic “stars”), elaborate multi-tone leatherwork, open-pore sindora wood veneers and more, was $1.12 million plus on-road costs.
