Surge in NDIS top-up claims costing $5.5m a day

There has been a 50 per cent increase in NDIS participants seeking unscheduled top-ups, with more than 2500 participants a week asking for increases as plan managers rush applications before proposed new rules take effect.
The rush for reassessments on overspent plans is estimated to be costing an extra $5.5 million a day in forgone savings. It comes after legislation to ensure participants spend money only on NDIS supports and not overspend their plan stalled in the Senate, blocked by the Coalition and Greens.
